Blue Ridge, Georgia, is a small, friendly "city" of 1200 residents. Incorporated in 1887, Blue Ridge is the county seat of Fannin County, Georgia. The city is named for the southern reach of the Appalachian Mountain Range that extends into Fannin County.
Visiting Blue Ridge is a step into "small-town America," with events such as the Blue Ridge State Farmer's Market and a Mountain Harvest Sale providing a welcome return to time when folks knew and trusted their neighbors! Blue Ridge is also the starting point of the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, with some 17,000 visitors each year arriving at the historic Train Depot and Red Caboose Visitor Center to ride the historic train and shop in the picturesque antique and specialty stores Blue Ridge offers.
Outstanding outdoor recreational opprotunities abound around Blue Ridge, including the Chattahoochee National Forest, the Ocoee Whitewater Center, and the Benton MacKaye Trail. Over 40% of the land in FAnnin County is National Forest land, provide wonderful resources for camping, hiking, riding, fishing and camping. In fact, some 90,000 fishermen yearly generate some $43 million in revenue for the state of Georgia. Local rivers and lakes are the perfect spot for a canoe trip, and Lake Blue Ridge is ideal for boating.
